Team of authors
Translated by Michal Téra from the original publication “Основы социальной концепции Русской Православной Церкви”, Moscow 2000.
“Foundations of the Social Conception of the Russian Orthodox Church” is one of the most important documents in the modern history of the Russian Orthodox Church. In clear and readable language, it reacts to the problems current in today’s society, such as relations with state, secular law, politics, private ownership, violence and war, the mass media, secularization and globalization. Questions of ecology, bioethics, education, morals and the dignity of human life, are also given due emphasis. The Russian Orthodox Church is the most populous of the family of Orthodox churches, and is active well beyond the frontiers of the Russian Federation, extending to the Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldavia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Many parishes may also be found in Western Europe and the United States of America.
