Ruská středověká literatura
Od křtu Vladimíra Velikého po Dmitrije Donského. Výbor textů 11.–14. století
Translated by Emilie Bláhová, Zoe Hauptová and Václav Konzal from Russian (Old Slavonic) sources.
An original and multi-faceted literature emerged in Rus from the 11th century, of which the present anthology traces the development by means of representantive excerpts. The anthology mainly focuses on genres and texts for which Czech translations have not hitherto been available. The reader will find herein homilies by Ilarion (the metropolitan of Kiev), Cyril of Turov and Serapion of Vladimir; legends on saints Boris, Gleb and Sergey of Radonezh; narratives on celebrated priests such as Andrey Bogolyubsky, Alexandr Nevsky and Mikhail of Czernigov. Sacred poetry is represented by the liturgical text "Service to honour" by Boris and Gleb. Helpful introductions precede each excerpt, and the book opens with a useful historical-literary study.
This book is a republication of "Písemnictví ruského středověku" (Prague 1989).
